Ranch Land
Posted by: | Comments
"Hey move the car!" Cried the man in the rearview mirror. I would if I could, but there are a million cars in front of me! The same route, as every day. I remember growing up, people were not as rude or uptight. Oh, look at that, they're putting a new sign .. Hmmm, a picture of a house over looking a view overview of the land that goes for all eternity. This seems a cattle ranch or something. At the top of the photo reads: "Get away from the bustle of the city, land for sale, Great Price. "Wow, that's very attractive.
That was me. Living in the city, working a job I hated.
Now, I grew up in a rural area, and my parents had a cattle ranch. After high school I went to a university in the front side of the country. I wanted the city life. What was wrong. So I decided to sell my house, which was packed in a nice neighborhood, and has invested in a cattle ranch.
Starting from scratch, had to remember what I needed to have a cattle ranch. So I called my dad and he gave me this for advice. He said that to begin with the 3 basic things, then go from there. Well, here are the 3 steps that I applied when I started my livestock.
1. Land – This is obvious, you have to buy the land to become a farmer, but there are some things you can do to increase profits. Like when you look to buy their land, consult your state or county to see on the land leasing some of the grazing rights. That helped me out because I was not a rich man. I bought 125 hectares, then I leased 1800 acres of my state.
(Remember that you have to build a house and other buildings belonging to the livestock, unless you buy an existing ranch.)
2. Bovine – Unless this is more a hobby, treat this as a business investment. Because when you buy your cattle you have to calculate how many will be able grazing on their land. For example, 50 head of cattle in 600 hectares. Thus, for 2,000 acres that you want around 150 head.
3. Horses and vehicles road – you have to check their cattle 3-4 times a week. In order to check on livestock, you use the use of a horse or an ATV. In the Midwest, 4wheelers and Polaris are very popular because of the hills. In the west, the horses are used more because of the rocky terrain and canyons fall in cattle.
These are the basic 3 steps to start your cattle ranch. There are much more things to do to begin ranching. But knowing the first 3 steps is the beginning to a lifestyle that is far from the cramped inner-city.
