Lanzarote is a haven for golfers. Imagine the days of sunshine, 70 degrees, a gentle breeze, almost every day. That is the beauty that is Lanzarote. Never heard about it? It is one of the Canary Islands off the coast of Africa. People often think that the islands are named after birds, but actually comes from the Latin for dog – Canine. Probably, the sailors were trying to describe the stamps used the islands as a breeding ground. The stamps, are, unfortunately, extinct.

I like Lanzarote (the most easterly of the chain of islands), the better because of its commitment to the environment. The seals with extinction are only one of many examples of how man has impacted negatively on the ecosystem of the island. Lanzarote is concerned about the flora and fauna and put their money where their mouth is.

Fields courses are actually a great example of eco-commitment. Both courses are designed with native plants, which maintains low water use. The set of Lanzarote has been subjected to volcanic activity (most recently in the 1700s, so do not worry) and the volcanic landscape areas are preserved and celebrated within designs golf courses. In more than one hole, which is practically playing in the volcano itself. An awesome experience.

The golf course First was the Lanzarote Costa Teguise, which opened in 1978. This is an 18 hole, par 72, designed by John Harris. Located at the foot of a volcano. In this Of course, players have to bring all their clubs in the game. The greens a D varied and there are some sharp curves of the fun. Costa Teguise is a challenge for players skilled and pleasant for someone my (lower) level of skill. It's just a beautiful place. There are accommodations near the camp, as the Western Oasis, Gran Meliá Salinas and Coronado Beach.

Recently, the Lancelot Golf Resort opened on the outskirts of Puerto del Carmen. It is 18 holes, par 72 course. American golf course designer Ron Kirby created the course. The location is incredible. The course is located in the hills above Puerto del Carmen. The Atlantic Ocean is the backdrop to the landscape wonderful.

Let's talk about the weather. Because Lancelot is so close to Africa, climate is temperate. The days are very mild throughout the year. 70 degrees every day can be a bit exaggerated, but when you go on the ice in Buffalo for a winter holiday, it will challenge a couple of degrees or clouds?

Golf is a great sport. Young or old, clumsy, or better, is a great way to get some exercise and some sunshine! Plan a short holiday that combines some much needed sun with some time on the greens. European flights are ridiculously cheap. Of the states will have to pay a couple hundred, round, or to the west coast, more nearly a thousand. Fun and sun are yours for the asking in Lanzarote.
